Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication
Add a second layer of protection to your Hirevers account using Google Authenticator.
Two-factor authentication, usually shortened to 2FA, means that knowing your login is not enough to get into your account. A second, changing code is also required.
It is free, available to every account, and takes about two minutes to set up.
Worth it if people contact you through Hirevers
Your profile is how businesses find and reach you. If someone got into it, they could change the contact email and quietly redirect enquiries meant for you.
What you need
Google Authenticator, a free app on Android and iPhone. It generates a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds, and works completely offline.
Setting it up
Install Google Authenticator
Get it from the Play Store or App Store if you do not already have it.
Open your Hirevers security settings
Sign in, go to your dashboard settings, and find the two-factor authentication section.
Scan the QR code
Hirevers shows a QR code. In Google Authenticator, tap add, then scan it. Hirevers appears in your app list with a 6-digit code counting down.
Enter the code to confirm
Type the current 6-digit code back into Hirevers. This proves the app is set up correctly before anything is locked.
Once confirmed, 2FA is on. From then on, signing in asks for a code from the app.
Signing in afterwards
Sign in with Google, GitHub, or LinkedIn as usual, then a screen asks for your 6-digit code. Open Google Authenticator, read the current code, and enter it. Codes expire every 30 seconds, so if one is about to change, wait for the next.
If your phone clock is off
Codes are based on the current time, so a phone whose clock has drifted will generate codes the server rejects. Turning on automatic date and time in your phone settings fixes this.
Losing your phone
Set this up before you need it
If you lose the phone with Google Authenticator on it, you lose the codes. Google Authenticator can back up to your Google account, and turning that on now saves a lot of trouble later.

Turning it off
You can disable 2FA from the same settings screen. You will need a current code to do it, so someone else cannot switch off your protection.
Other things that keep your account safe
Watch the sender address
Hirevers only emails from addresses ending in hirevers.com.
Never enter your login elsewhere
Hirevers will never ask for your Google, GitHub, or LinkedIn password.
Read your sign-in alerts
Notifications about new sign-ins are worth checking rather than dismissing.
Be careful with external links
Verify any link before entering personal data on the page it opens.
